Author:
Rhim, W. K., Chung, S. K.
Description:
The apparatus schematically provides electrostatic levitation and radiant heating of a small sample of material in a vacuum. Unlike in an electromagnetic levitator (in which the sample must be a conductor), the sample can be an electrical insulator, or semiconductor, and the rate of heating can be controlled independently of the levitating force.
