This story reminds me of the time at age 15 I was 30-40 miles from the ranch in Brazil and didn't know the way home. The territory to be traversed was a wilderness forest with little animal trails going every which way. It was pitch dark; no moon, no stars, no signs and no maps. One could not see, literally, their hand in front of their face or the horse upon which I rode. Lucky for me the horse (who also had never been this direction) seemed to somehow know its way home. Trusting in its instincts I allowed it free reign and we safely plodded the entire distance while I never saw a single thing during the whole all night trip.
