Jesus Christ belonged to the true race of prophets.... He said,..."I am divine. Through me, God acts; through me, speaks. Would you see God, see me; or see thee, when though also thinkest as I now think." But what a distor- tion did his doctrine and memory suffer in the same, in the next, and the following ages!
--Ralph Waldo Emerson
If we Christians wish to retain in Christ the very qualities on which his power and our worship are based, we have no better way--no other way, even--of doing so than fully to accept the most modern concepts of evolution. Under the combined pressure of science and philosophy, we are being forced, experientially and intellectually, to accept the world as a coordinated system of activity which is gradually rising up toward freedom and consciousness.
-- Father Teilhard de Chardin
Jesus does not think dogmatically. He formulates no doctrine. He is far from judging any man's belief by reference to any standard of dogmatic correctness. Nowhere does he demand of His hearers that they shall sacrifice thinking to believing....I am certain that truthfulness in all things belongs to the spirit of Jesus.
Miracles do not happen in contradiction to nature, but only in contradiction to that which is known to us of nature.
